WHEN FAITH IS TESTED

TESTING IS A PART OF LIFE
Few pupils would be able to say that they look forward to tests. Many dread them. This seems to be a common reaction.
Does God test us? Abraham was certainly given a very difficult test one day.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,”
19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense Hebrews 11:17-19
THE TESTING OF ABRAHAM
The story of Abraham being tested by God is recorded in Genesis 22. The following things were highlighted by the writer of Hebrews.
- It involved Isaac
a) Isaac was “his only begotten son”
b) He was the heir of Abraham
c) He was the seed of Abraham
- It involved Abraham
a) It involved his mind
b) It involved his heart
c) It involved his faith in God
- What was the test?
a) God asked Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice
b) How did Abraham respond?
THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM
The faith of Abraham enabled him to believe in the following:
- He was able to believe in God fully
- He did not question God as to why Isaac was asked to be a sacrifice
- He believed that God was able to resurrect Isaac
Abraham passed this test with flying colours! This is faith that is worth emulating! Let us be challenged to strengthen and deepen our faith in the LORD!
