A Command To Love One Another

During the Mid-Autumn Special, Pastor Mark, Aunty Michelle and Uncle Beng Hoe spoke of how faith has made a huge difference in their lives, especially amidst health challenges. They were deeply moved by the tremendous love and support the church gave in the form of prayer, words of encouragement and medical advice.

As I listened to their testimonies, I am reminded of the new commandment the Lord Jesus gave to His disciples in John 13:34-35:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

The Lord Jesus loved the disciples dearly, and instructed them to follow in His example, to love and serve one another.

Having been in Bethany over the past eight years, I’ve personally been a huge beneficiary of the love of God shown through His people in many ways. Growing up, my Sunday School Teachers, YPG Leaders and Pastors have always taken time to encourage my heart and teach me important lessons of faith. Even when I had many questions and doubts, they would patiently and lovingly help me to resolve them, one by one.

Having experienced God’s love through His people, I am filled with a great sense of thankfulness to God and my response is to likewise, follow in the example of the Lord Jesus, to love and care for others.
