“God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints…” Psalm 89:7a

THE FEAR OF GOD

One of the most basic teachings in the Scriptures has to be “the fear of God”. Ethan the Ezrahite certainly supported the cultivation of a healthy fear of God.

“God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
And to be held in reverence by all those around Him.”
Psalm 89:7

1. What is this “fear of God”?

a) It is described plainly as “reverence”.
b) Reverence is to have the highest regard for God.
i) There should be awe.
ii) There should be deep humility.

2. Who should fear the Lord?

a) Those who called “the assembly of saints”.
b) Those “around Him”:-
i) Those who serve the Lord in the heavenly places (angels).
ii) Those who serve Him on earth (His servants).

3. Why should this fear of God be cultivated?

a) It is logical to fear a God who is mighty.
b) It is natural to stand in awe of God once we truly know Him.
c) It is an appropriate response when we see His wonderful works.

4. Where should the fear of God be practised?

a) Where saints dwell (the home).
b) Where saints work.
c) Where saints gather for worship.
d) Where saints serve the Lord.
