Day 179 – Psalm 79

“We will show forth Your praise to all generations.” Psalm 79:13b

COMMENCING ON A DISMAL NOTE

Psalm 79 began on a dismal and negative note. Asaph was virtually overwhelmed by the destruction and carnage he saw inflicted on Jerusalem.

COMMUNICATION WITH GOD IN PRAYER

Asaph did what he thought was the very best thing to do. He sought to communicate all he thought and felt in prayer to God.

1. He laid before the Lord the terrible sins of the wicked nations.

2. He spoke to the Lord about unfeeling and wicked neighbours too.

3. He appealed for Divine justice to be upheld.

4. He pleaded for Divine deliverance as well.

5. He offered a strong imprecatory suggestion to mete out the strongest punishment on the wicked.

CONCLUDING ON A POSITIVE NOTE

Asaph concluded his psalm on a strong and positive note.

“So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture,
Will give You thanks forever;
We will show forth Your praise to all generations.”
Psalm 79:13

1. The relationship with God has remained intact essentially

a) They were still God’s people.
b) They were the sheep of His pasture.

2. Looking forward to a future full of hope generated by faith in God

a) A future where God’s people will offer thanksgiving worship.
b) A future where God’s people will survive for many more generations.
i) Each generation will look back at God’s deliverance and praise Him.
ii) Each generation will look at what God has done to His enemies and rejoice in His justice.
iii) Each generation will give praise that God has preserved them from annihilation.
