Day 313 – Psalm 69

“This also shall please the LORD…” Psalm 69:31a

RESPONSE OF GOD TO PRAISE

How does God respond when believers offer Him heartfelt praise and thanksgiving? David made this strong statement.

“This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull,
Which has horns and hooves.”
Psalm 69:31

1. “This also shall please the LORD”

a) This truth stems from a deep knowledge of God.
b) David had this deep knowledge of God.
i) This knowledge was cultivated over the years.
ii) These lessons were drawn from life’s experiences.

2. “Better than an ox or bull, which has horns and hooves”

a) This statement is a reference to the standard worship Israel practiced.
b) God was the One who gave to Israel this worship system.
c) However with the passing of time, Israel merely offered the kind of worship that was not pleasing to God.
i) Ritual worship was the order of the day.
ii) Many thought that ritual worship was all that God required.
iii) This was a wrong comprehension of what God desired as worship.

3. Recalling God’s earlier word concerning prayer and praise (Psalm 50)

Three texts may be highlighted:-

a) Offer to God thanksgiving and pay your vows to Him (Psalm 50:14).
b) Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me (Psalm 50:15).
c) Whoever offers praise glorifies Me (Psalm 50:23a).
