A SONG OF GREAT JOY

As the superscription suggests, this psalm was meant to be a song.

“Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth!”

1. “Make a joyful shout to God”

The idea behind “a joyful shout” may be understood as follows:-

a) It is a reference to how this psalm was to be sung.
b) It must be sung with great joy.
c) It must be sung with vigour too.
d) It would then appear as “a joyful shout to God”.
e) It is not an endorsement for loud and meaningless shouting in worship.

2. “All the earth”

a) God is deemed worthy of great songs of praise.
b) The whole earth should focus on singing a great anthem of praise to God. Imagine a gigantic choir singing to God this great song offered in humble and grateful worship!
