Day 106 – Psalm 50

“Seeing you hate instruction…” Psalm 50:17a

REJECTION OF GOD’S WORD

God charged the wicked with a number of evil activities. One of them has to do with the way the wicked treated God’s word.

“Seeing you hate instruction
And cast My words behind you?”
Psalm 50:17

1. On the one hand

a) The wicked were declaring the statutes of God (Psalm 50:16).
b) They were making reference to God’s covenant with their mouth (Psalm 50:16).

2. On the other hand

a) They actually hate instruction.
b) They cast God’s word behind them.

3. Significance of these solemn words

a) The wicked hated the word of God (instruction).
i) But they had deceptively hidden their hatred for instruction in God’s word.
ii) They had chosen their own brand of wisdom in so doing.
b) They rejected God’s word.
i) This was clear to God who is omniscient.
ii) God had to expose the wicked.
iii) Many would have been easily taken in by these wicked people because they knew how to disguise themselves through deception.

God had to firmly address these wicked people before they could deceive more people and lead Israel into greater sin.
