MEDITATION
Genesis 34:4-5
4 So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, “Get me this young woman as a wife.”
5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field; so Jacob held his peace until they came.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Shechem’s conversation with his father
a. Shechem approached his father.
b. He asked his father to help him marry Dinah.
2. News of the rape of Dinah
a. Jacob learned about the rape of Dinah
i. This was inevitable.
ii. Dinah would have returned home.
iii. She would have told her mother.
iv. Jacob would have been informed.
b. He did not make any response on his own immediately.
c. Jacob was not like Esau.
i. To give battle was not his way of responding.
ii. He was not inclined to violence.
iii. Fear was always close by.
iv. He had to take time to think about how he should respond to this problem.
3. His sons
a. They were out in the fields, looking after the flocks and herds.
b. He waited till they came back.
c. This was a painful time of family grief and shame.
