"Who cause divisions..."

Text: Jude 19

THREE MORE OBSERVATIONS

Jude made three more observations about these false teachers.

“These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.”

Jude 19

1. “These are sensual persons”

a) The word “sensual” must be carefully understood.
b) The following things may be noted: –
i) The word is used as the opposite of “spiritual”.
ii) They are worldly people.
iii) Their focus is on things that arise from the natural human dimension.
c) Jude adds the following observations to explain what he meant by calling them “sensual people”.

2. “Who cause divisions”

a) Spiritual people will not cause divisions in the church community.
i) They will seek to edify people.
ii) They will contribute to the growth and well-being of the church.
iii) They will promote unity.
iv) This is well-explain by the Apostle Paul (Ephesians 4:11-16).
b) “These sensual persons”
i) They will cause divisions in the church community.
ii) They will promote their false teachings that are contrary to the truth.
iii) Their worldly approach may appeal to some.
iv) But the godly will discern and will oppose such teachings.
v) Thus they will cause divisions in the church.

3. “Not having the Spirit”

a) This would have been so obvious.
b) These have not been born-again of the Holy Spirit.
c) These are certainly not Spirit-filled people.
d) Their carnality and their worldly ways would be clear evidence of their not having the Spirit.
