Day 23

"Building yourselves up on your most holy faith..."

Text: Jude 20

RESPONSIBILITIES DISCHARGED

The Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ had discharged their responsibilities well. They had carefully proclaimed the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. They had also defended the Gospel against false teachers and false brethren.

There were others like Jude who rose up to the occasion. Jude was not an apostle but he had learned well. He was able to earnestly contend for the faith. He felt that it was his responsibility to defend the faith too.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Jude felt that every believer had a personal responsibility to develop his personal faith. On this note he wrote the following word of admonition.

“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit.”

Jude 20

1. “But you, beloved”

a) Lovingly, Jude addressed his readers.
b) They were beloved brethren.
c) This word was meant to be a personal address.

2. “Building yourselves up”

a) Everyone must understand the need to exercise personal responsibility.
b) There is a part for everyone.
c) Different roles:-
i) The Lord Jesus is the foundation (Ephesians 2:20).
ii) Paul wrote about how he laid the foundation for the church (1 Corinthians 3:10).
iii) The Apostles defended the faith vigorously (Paul, Peter, John).
iv) Many stout believers who knew their faith contended for the faith too (Jude).
v) Personal responsibility must be exercised to build ourselves up in the faith.

3. “On your most holy faith”

a) How do we regard our faith?
b) Jude rightly declares it as a “most holy faith”.
i) It is holy because it is given by the Lord.
ii) It is holy because it is sanctified by the blood of Christ.
c) It follows that we must feel compelled to build ourselves up.
d) Every effort must be put in to build up our faith. It is our personal responsibility!
