"Consider it in your heart..."

Text: Deuteronomy 4:39

THE RIGHT RESPONSE TO THE LORD AND HIS WORD

Moses had seen how the children of God had rebelled against the Lord and how they had turned to idolatry. With all his heart he urged them to make the right response to the Lord.

“Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart,
that the LORD Himself is God in heaven above
and on the earth beneath; there is no other.
You shall therefore keep His statutes and His commandments
which I command you today,
that it may go well with you and with your children after you,
and that you may prolong your days in the land which
the LORD your God is giving you for all time.”

EVERY ENCOURAGEMENT TO KEEP THE WORD OF GOD

Obviously, every encouragement had been given to the children of Israel to fear the Lord and to keep His commandments! There was no reason why the Word of God should not be studied carefully and kept with full obedience in mind! If failure occurs, it would be the fault of the children of Israel alone. What a wonderful God the LORD had proven Himself to His people (Cf. Deuteronomy 5 where God’s Laws were reiterated).
