The Purity Of The Word Of God

The original Scriptures stand alone as a document that is absolutely inerrant. There is not a trace of error or falsehood within these ancient words. The Psalmist was able to recognise this wonderful characteristic of His word.

“Your word is very pure”
Psalm 119:140

God’s word is absolutely pure and untainted. It is like silver that has been purified in the furnace seven times (Psalm 12:6). The Psalmist declared that the word of God is righteous and very faithful (Psalm 119:138). Because God, the author of the Scriptures, is righteous and His righteousness is everlasting, even so the word that He gave is upright and righteous always. The word of God is truth and will always be.

A Response Of Love For The Word Of God

“Therefore Your servant loves it.”
Psalm 119:140

Because the word of God is very pure, the Psalmist had a deep love for it. As God’s servant, he responded by seeking to love the word. How did he go about doing this?

1. Remembering The Word Of God

“I am small and despised,
Yet I do not forget Your precepts.”

Psalm 119:141

The Psalmist was going through a time where he was being despised by people. Yet in the midst of this, he did not forget His word. He sought to remember God’s word. A person who has a real love for the word will always recall it no matter what.

2. Praying For Understanding From The Word Of God

The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting;
Give me understanding, and I shall live.”

Psalm 119:144

The Psalmist also prayed for a depth of understanding of the Scriptures. From God’s ever righteous word, we can gain much enlightenment from Him. When we do have such understanding, we will also find spiritual vitality.

3. Delighting In The Word Of God

“Trouble and anguish have overtaken me,
Yet Your commandments are my delights.”

Psalm 119:143

Despite having trouble and anguish in his life, the Psalmist continued to delight in His word. The Psalmist was being stressed by the problems of life. Instead of giving in to his problems, he continued to delight in His word. Young people, let’s continue to know His word and delight in it. Let’s learn to treasure and enjoy reading His word.
