Cultivating Total Trust In God

Examination time is here again for most students. Many are in the midst of preparing for their exams or they are already in the midst of them. It is during such mentally and physically strenuous times that we can feel drained and worn-out. When we are not progressing well in our studies, we may feel discouragement and even despair. It is also during such times that our hearts can stray away and be influenced into doing wrong things. The best thing for us to do in such times is to learn to cultivate total trust in the Lord. The Psalmist in the text ofPsalm 125 wrote concerning those who trust in God.

“Those who trust in the Lord”
Psalm 125:1

Trust in the Lord is about placing one’s life fully in His hands. It is about having full confidence in God that He will take care of us. Our trust is in a God who is Lord over all things, especially our lives. Our part is to study hard and to prepare well. Concurrently, we must trust in the lordship and sovereignty of God. The Psalmist observed that those who trust in the Lord were specially blessed.

The Blessing Of Tremendous Strength

The Lord will bless those who trust in Him with tremendous strength.

1. Steadfast Strength From Within

“Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.”

Psalm 125:1

Those who trust in the Lord will be likened to Mount Zion. This small mountain is about 2000 ft high. When people fully trust in the Lord, they are strong like a mountain. There is this great sense of steadiness and steadfastness. There comes this inner man strength that causes people to be unmovable and to have perseverance in all matters of life. Like a mountain that cannot be removed, so those who trust in the Lord will continue and abide. Young people, let’s learn to find this steadfast strength by increasing our trust in the Lord.

2. Special Strength From God

“As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.”

Psalm 125:2

There are seven mountains that surround Jerusalem. They are Mt Moriah, Mt Bethzatha., Mt Scopus, Mount of Olives, Mt Opel, Mt Zion and Mt Ghareb. These mountains are part of Jerusalem’s natural defences. They form a formidable circle around this city of David. Even as Jerusalem is specially surrounded by mountains, God also surrounds His people in a special way. He will be a special source of strength to those who trust in Him. As we cultivate trust in Him, let’s pray that the Lord will be our special source of strength. Let’s pray that He will personally strengthen and enable those taking exams.
