A Great Challenge To Preach The Gospel

It is never easy to preach the gospel to non-believers. Very often, we are afraid of rejection and the negative consequences that result because we seek to bear witness of the Lord Jesus. Sometimes, it may also result in friends and family members persecuting us. Young people, let’s not be afraid to share the gospel no matter what. Before the Lord Jesus sent out the disciples to preach about the kingdom of God, He gave them a list of commands and exhortations. I would like to highlight four.

1. Depending On The Spirit Of God To Assist

“For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.”
Matthew 10:20

When the disciples were brought before kings and persecuted for the sake of their faith, they were not to worry about what to say. The Spirit of God would assist in helping the disciples make a defence of their faith. We too must learn to depend on the Spirit’s guidance in aiding us speak for Christ. He will help us defend our faith.

2. Focusing On The Example Of The Lord Jesus

“It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!”
Matthew 10:25

The Lord spoke of how a disciple will go through what a master has gone through. If people had reviled Jesus and said all kinds of nasty things against Him, they will also do it for His disciples. As disciples of the Lord Jesus, we must expect suffering.

3. Fearing God More Than Man

“And do not fear those how kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Matthew 10:28

Our challenge is not to fear those who can kill the body. We must not be fearful of what man can do to us. We must fear instead the One who can kill both our body and soul. Our challenge is to fear God more than men and what they can do to us.

4. Understanding The Principle Of Reciprocity In Bearing Witness

“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 10:32

The Lord Jesus also spoke of the principle of reciprocity when it comes to testifying for Him. If we testify for Him, then He will confess us before God at the day of judgment. If we do not, He also will not confess us before the Father. Let’s seek to always boldly preach the gospel of Jesus no matter what.
