The Wisdom Of God In Creation

Appreciating the wisdom of God

We believe in a great and awesome Creator. He is the eternal God who existed before creation was made. Together with Him, at the beginning, was wisdom. The author of Proverbs sought to personify and describe wisdom in a way that exalts her place in creation. May we be challenged to appreciate the wisdom of God more deeply.

The pre-existence of wisdom in God before creation

“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.” (Proverbs 8:22)

1. Solomon provided excellent insights concerning wisdom in creation.
2. The Lord had already possessed wisdom at the beginning…before the world was created.
3. Wisdom was something established since eternity past…“I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth.” (Proverbs 8:23)
4. Wisdom was in God and pre-existed the creation of the world.

The place of wisdom in creation

1. Wisdom had a vital place in the making of all creation.
2. She was brought forth and featured strongly as God created the world (Proverbs 8:24–26).
   1. In the creation of the depths of the sea.
   2. In the settling of the mountain and the hills.
   3. In making the earth, the fields and the primal dust of the world.
3. Wisdom was there as God prepared the heavens (Proverbs 8:27).
4. She was also there when God drew a circle on the face of the deep (Proverbs 8:27).
5. God employed wisdom to establish the clouds and strengthen the foundations of the deep (Proverbs 8:28).
6. He assigned limitations to the sea and marked out the foundations of the earth (Proverbs 8:29).

Let us be challenged to understand and appreciate the vital place of the Lord’s wisdom in the creation of the heavens and the earth.

Wisdom as a master craftsman

“Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;” (Proverbs 8:30)

1. Wisdom was placed beside God…in close proximity.
2. She was seen as a master craftsman.
3. A master craftsman needs wisdom to apply his skill in creating things.
4. With wisdom, God created the heavens and the earth with great skill and excellence.

Let us appreciate the discernment of the Master Creator in establishing all creation.

The Lord’s delight in wisdom

“And I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men.” (Proverbs 8:30–31)

As the Lord created the universe with wisdom, He found delight in it. The Lord rejoiced in all that was created. The world was not formed randomly out of chaos, but was designed wisely and established carefully. God is pleased with His wise creation of the world and men.

Let us be challenged to appreciate the place of wisdom in creation and delight in it as God has. Let us praise and worship our great and wise Master Creator for all He has done. Let us be inspired to discover and employ wisdom in our lives and ministries as God did in His work of creation.
