Appreciating the blessing of wisdom
Many seek blessings in life. But not many would do what is necessary to be blessed. The author of Proverbs wrote that we are blessed when we find wisdom in our lives. When we fail to incorporate wisdom into our lives, we miss out on the blessings that come with it.
Solomon wrote, “For blessed are those who keep my ways” (Proverbs 8:32). As we keep the ways of wisdom, there will come blessings. He also wrote, “Blessed is the man who listens to me” (Proverbs 8:34). If we listened carefully to wisdom, we would see our lives much more blessed. Let us be challenged to seek after wisdom more diligently.
The challenge to listen to wisdom
- Wisdom speaks her words of wisdom to all.
- But it is her children who would truly listen to her words…“Now therefore, listen to me, my children,” (Proverbs 8:32)
- God applied wisdom in the making and establishing of His creation.
- As children of wisdom, we should also do the same in what we do in life.
- The challenge is for us to listen carefully to what wisdom says.
- Wisdom speaks instructions that are excellent, righteous and true…“Hear instruction and be wise,” (Proverbs 8:33)
- We should never disdain wisdom…“And do not disdain it.” (Proverbs 8:33)
Let us be challenged to listen well to the words of wisdom.
Finding wisdom
- Let us desire to find wisdom.
- There should be alertness and diligence in watching for wisdom…“Watching daily at my gates,” (Proverbs 8:34)
- We should be keenly waiting at the door…“Waiting at the posts of my doors.” (Proverbs 8:34)
- We ought to do everything we can to find wisdom.
- We have every reason to find wisdom.
- Able to find life… a blessed life…“For whoever finds me finds life,” (Proverbs 8:35).
- Able to obtain favour from God…“And obtains favour from the Lord; ” (Proverbs 8:35).
Let us be challenged to give our time, energy and determination to find wisdom.
The danger of rejecting wisdom
Yet, there are grave dangers to those who reject wisdom. Solomon wrote, “But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul;” (Proverbs 8:36). There are adverse consequences for those who sin against wisdom…by rejecting and disdaining her. They end up wronging themselves…their own souls. Some hate wisdom, “All those who hate me love death” (Proverbs 8:36). They end up loving death and darkness. Let us guard ourselves from such grave dangers and choose not to reject wisdom.
Let us be challenged to seek and find wisdom…to follow her instructions and ways so that the Lord may greatly bless our life and ministry.
