A special church

Bethany’s 50+2 Anniversary is just around the corner. As I reflect on all the blessings God has given us as a church, I cannot help but see how special Bethany is. Her specialness as a church is reflected in her distinctiveness. There are ministries in our church that not many have undertaken. Not that we want to “take pride” in these things but they are special things that define us as a church…areas we have developed over the years through the mercy of the Lord (2 Corinthians 4:1). We thank God for the way we have been able to grow as a church “from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18). I feel privileged to be part of a special church like Bethany.

Features of a special church

What are some of the special features that I have come to appreciate?

1. Custodial Ministry

1. Whenever I share with new people that we have a custodial ministry to care for the Lord’s house weekly, they are always amazed that we do not hire professional cleaners.
2. We thank God for our young people and young adults who love and care for His house.
3. They are a shining testimony of what the next generation can do as part of the church.

2. Fellowship Lunch Ministry

1. We thank God for all who serve diligently and tirelessly to prepare our Sunday lunches.
2. These lunches provide opportunities for us to fellowship and build bonds together.
3. These meals are prepared with love and skill, making them all the more special.

3. Special Seniors Programme

1. I remember a time in Bethany II when we did consider ministering to seniors but Pastor felt that we were not ready then as a church.
2. Today, we thank God for the SSP, where our seniors are taught both God’s Word and craftwork.
3. It is special to see how the SSP has brought so much love, joy and life to our seniors.

4. Special Needs Ministry

1. We thank God for this special ministry that cares for children with special needs.
2. This is where they get to know the Lord and His Word despite their challenges.
3. Even the parents of the children are taught and cared for at our Saturday programmes.

5. Sunday School Ministry

1. Another feature that is special about Bethany is the Sunday School Ministry.
2. We have students from toddlers to seniors, totalling more than 600 students.
3. We thank God for such a strong teaching ministry that has been developed over the years.

6. Shangri-La Celebrations

Another special feature of Bethany is that we hold three yearly celebrations at the Shangri-La. We celebrate Easter, our Anniversary and Christmas at the Shang, where we have a glorious time of worship and a special banquet lunch together as a church. We count ourselves blessed that we can hold these three special celebrations each year. What a special church Bethany is! It is fantastic to see how we have been transformed from glory to glory. Let us look forward to giving much glory to God as we celebrate our 50+2 Anniversary.
