Key lessons learnt

In the last two months, we have been focusing on the theme “From Glory to Glory”. Our study of 2 Corinthians 3 and 4 has been most enriching and uplifting. We have gained greater insights, enlightenment and depth about the glorious ministry of the Holy Spirit. These are some of the key lessons that have been a blessing to my own heart.

1. A glorious epistle of Christ

“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men;” (2 Corinthians 3:2)

  1. Paul wrote about how things are written in our hearts.
  2. All of us are meant to be glorious epistles of Christ, and it is by the Spirit of God who writes upon our hearts (2 Corinthians 3:2–3).
  3. We thank God for those who write upon our hearts, such as our pastors, teachers and others.
  4. Our hearts must be written upon first before we can write upon the hearts of others.
  5. Let us be challenged to have hearts of flesh that the Spirit can gloriously write upon.

2. The glorious image of Christ

“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,” (2 Corinthians 1:21)

  1. The word “anointing” in Greek is the word “chrisma” (1 John 2:20).
  2. The word for Christ is “Christos”.
  3. As for Christians, it is “christianos” (Acts 11:26).
  4. Christ is in all these words.
  5. We are to bear the glorious image of Christ as His epistles and His ministers (2 Corinthians 3:18).

3. A glorious hope

“Therefore, since we have such hope,” (2 Corinthians 3:12)

  1. The hope that we have is invisible.
  2. But it is there inside us, deep within.
  3. This hope is based on the glorious ministry of the Holy Spirit.
  4. We have a glorious hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:5).
  5. This is because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts.
  6. Let us be challenged never to lose hope, no matter what we face in life and ministry.

4. A glorious ministry

“Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.” (2 Corinthians 4:1)

  1. The Lord has entrusted to us His glorious ministry…to serve Him well and not lose heart.
  2. We thank God for the mercy granted to us in all His blessings.
  3. Our challenge is to manifest the truth as bondservants of Christ…to shine the light of His gospel in this world of darkness (2 Corinthians 4:2).
  4. In every good thing that we do, we are to shine and manifest Christ and His light for all to see.

5. A glorious walk by faith

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Faith underpins everything we do…our ministry and the manifestation of Christ. We need eyes of faith to see beyond the physical and temporal. A knowledge-based faith provides us with insights, such as the assurance of an eternal home in heaven. It profoundly impacts our lives to look beyond this earthly life to the greater reality of eternity. Let us be challenged to walk by faith from glory to glory…to look forward to the glory of heaven one day.
