Kingdom of God
A Blessed and Joyous Lunar New Year! We thank God and extol Him for all the blessings He has given us. One blessing we want to focus on is being part of the kingdom of God. It is truly wonderful that we can know, understand and be part of His kingdom. Let us not take for granted this amazing privilege that God has given us.
The Psalmist David sought to highlight the kingdom of God as he praised God. He was conscious of extolling God as his King, “I will extol You, my God, O King” (Psalm 145:1). David himself was king. Yet he acknowledged God as the greater King who reigns supreme over all Israel and the earth. Let us be challenged to appreciate the kingdom of God more deeply.
Features of the Kingdom of God
What are some of the features of the kingdom that David highlighted?
1. It is a glorious kingdom
“They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom,” (Psalm 145:11)
Unlike the kingdoms of man, God’s kingdom is divinely glorious.
2. It is a powerful kingdom
“And talk of Your power,” (Psalm 145:11)
It is full of mighty power that is unmatched by any other powers.
3. It is marked by glorious majesty
“To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.” (Psalm 145:12)
God’s kingdom will reflect glorious and profound majesty that no other kingdom can display.
4. It is an everlasting kingdom
“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.” (Psalm 145:13)
His kingdom will last forever…throughout all the generations that will come.
Appropriate responses to the glorious kingdom of God
- The challenge is to speak about the kingdom of God to the sons of men (Psalm 145:11–12).
- We ought to bless and praise our King for His kingdom (Psalm 145:10).
- Above all, let us focus on and treasure the kingdom of God.
Following the example of the Lord Jesus
The Lord Jesus set a great example of what it means to focus on the kingdom of God and to speak of it to the multitudes. We read, “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom” (Matthew 4:23). He came into this world with the purpose of preaching about the kingdom to all. His call to man was to repent, for the kingdom of heaven was at hand (Matthew 4:17). All who respond to His call will enter into His kingdom.
Let us be inspired to focus on the kingdom of God. Let us seek the kingdom of God above all else. As we meet with family and friends this Lunar New Year, let us take this opportunity to share the kingdom of God with others, especially those who still don’t know the Lord Jesus. Let us be challenged to follow the great example of the Lord Jesus by focusing on and sharing the kingdom of God with others.
