The presence of the Lord
When we face the difficulties of life, we may feel all alone. It seems like God has distanced Himself and is far away. But this is the wrong perspective to have. What would be a correct understanding?
The Psalmist David offered an uplifting word, “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18). This is a most reassuring and comforting perspective. The Lord’s presence is indeed near to us. He hears us when we call upon Him, whatever the time.
David was very conscious of the Lord’s involvement in his life. It indicated to him that the Lord was near him. These were some reasons why he believed God was near.
The Lord is near to all
1. The Lord’s power to uphold
“The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down.” (Psalm 145:14)
- There will be times when we falter in our way and feel down.
- Discouragement can get the better of us, causing us to feel despair.
- It is wonderful to know that the Lord upholds us with His powerful hands and raises us up.
2. The Lord’s provision
“The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.” (Psalm 145:15–16)
- God knows the needs of all living creatures and provides them with ample food.
- We thank God for His provision in our lives, to satisfy our every need.
- He opens His hand and gives generously and graciously.
3. The Lord’s answer to our prayers
“He will fulfil the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.” (Psalm 145:19)
- The Lord also seeks to fulfil all our desires and cries.
- We can be uplifted knowing God is near and seeks to help us in our time of need.
- Our challenge is to cultivate a fear of the Lord and turn to Him in prayer.
4. The Lord’s preservation
“The Lord preserves all who love Him,” (Psalm 145:20)
- The Lord is aware of the dangers that may come our way.
- He seeks to preserve us in our going out and our coming in.
- Our part is to love Him for who He is…One who seeks to be near us.
A determination to praise and bless the Lord
“My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and all flesh shall bless His holy name forever and ever.” (Psalm 145:21)
As we appreciate and sense the Lord’s presence near us, let us be challenged to respond with greater determination in praising Him. Let us all seek to bless and lift up the Lord’s holy name always.
