THE SYMBOL OF FIRE

1. A symbol of many nuances

a) A symbol of God’s power
i) The God of Abraham (Genesis 15)
ii) The God of Elijah (1 Kings 18)
b) A symbol of the Holy Spirit
i) Associated closely with the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:11)
ii) The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2)
c) A symbol of Testing
i) Trials of life
ii) Persecution/ Sufferings (Matthew 5:10-12; Philippians 1:29)

2. Fire will test and reveal

a) Our work
b) What sort it is
i) It will become clear
ii) The Day will declare it
iii) If the work will endure
iv) God will reward the wise master builder
c) Alternatively
i) The work could be burned
ii) There will be loss
d) Our salvation
i) It will not be lost
ii) Only our work (time, energy, effort etc)

ENSURING THAT OUR HOUSE OF FAITH WILL STAND

1. Building on strong foundations

a) The teachings of Jesus
b) Following Jesus as faithful disciples
i) Content of faith
ii) Corrections accepted and heeded
iii) Character formed along the way
iv) Changes to be made
v) Cultivation of Faith

2. Allowing God’s Holy Fire to do the following:

a) Cleansed by the Lord (Isaiah 6)
i) Tongue
ii) Heart
iii) Purified
b) Empowered and enthused (Acts 2)
i) No longer fearful
ii) No longer faithless
iii) No longer weak and defeated
