Dear Parents,

THE SUBJECT-TOPIC THAT CONCLUDES THE BOOK OF PROVERBS
It is most interesting to note that the Book of Proverbs ends with the subject-topic of a “virtuous wife” (Proverbs 31:10). What are some possible reasons why there is this focus on this subject? Let us ponder the following reasons:-

1. Marriage

a) This teaching is deemed of paramount importance in Israel’s theology.

b) The role of the wife/mother is underscored in marriage.

2. Challenges to all seeking a good marriage

a) We have clear guidelines given (Proverbs 31:10-31).

b) These guidelines were meant to render invaluable wisdom in the search of a life-partner.

3. Challenge to bring up good children

a) All parents are encouraged to bring up their children well (especially girls).

b) There is great blessing to the heart of all who have brought up good children (and these in turn become good wives).

4. Dispelling of wrong ideas

a) This subject-topic dispels wrong ideas about marriage. (Many imagine that marriage is the answer to life’s problems.)

b) Good marriages are the result of hard work!

5. Life in general

a) Marriage is one aspect of life (as a whole).

b) Even if not all end up married, the principle of strength and honour is exalted (Proverbs 31:12, 25).
