a) Rebuke
b) Chastening
c) Instruction

THE DANGER OF PRESUMPTOUS SINS

1. Assumptions that are wrong

a) God approves
b) God does not mind
c) All forms of worship would be accepted
d) God never rejects any worship

2. Rebuke of wrong assumptions

Psalm 50
a) The people who declare His word are actually wicked   (Psalm 50:16)
b) They actually hate instruction   (Psalm 50:17)
c) They cast His words behind their back   (Psalm 50:17)
d) Mouth given to evil   (Psalm 50:19)
e) Tongue frames deceit   (Psalm 50:19)
f) Speaking against brethren   (Psalm 50:20)
g) Assumption that God’s silence means approval   (Psalm 50:21)

A CLEAR EXAMPLE OF THE SIN OF PRESUMPTION

1. The sending out of 12 spies

2. Mixed Report:

a) 10 spies
Canaan cannot be conquered. They are too well-fortified
b) 2 Spies
God can help Israel overcome all enemies

3. God’s judgment

a) Israel would now wander for 40 years
b) Next generation will enter the Promised Land

4. Israel’s response

a) Expression of sorrow
b) Attempt to be made
c) Israel was routed!
