(I) THINGS THAT BRING SORROW TO THE HEART

1. Thoughts of Death

“The pangs of death surrounded me…” Psalm 18:4a

“…The snares of death confronted me.” Psalm 18:5

2. Fears

“…And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.” Psalm 18:4b

3. Distress

“In my distress I called upon the LORD…” Psalm 18:6

4. Strong enemies

“He delivered me from my strong enemy,From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me.” Psalm 18:17

(II) THINGS THAT MOVE THE HEART TO PRAISE GOD

1. Discovery of God

a) Strength ( Psalm 18:1 )

b) Rock ( Psalm 18:2 )

c) Fortress ( Psalm 18:2 )

d) Deliverer ( Psalm 18:2 )

e) Shield ( Psalm 18:2 )

f) Stronghold ( Psalm 18:2 )

“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised…” Psalm 18:3

2. Deliverance

“He delivered me from my strong enemy…For they were too strong for me.They confronted me in the day of my calamity…” Psalm 18:17-18

“You have delivered me from the strivings of the people…” Psalm 18:43

“He delivers me from my enemies…” Psalm 18:48

“Great deliverance He gives to His king;And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and His descendants forevermore.” Psalm 18:50

(III) THE APPROPRIATE DETERMINATION

“Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the Gentiles,And sing praises to Your name.” Psalm 18:49
