THE PURPOSE OF THE COMMANDMENT

 

(I) THE PURPOSE (GOAL) OF THE COMMANDMENT

“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,” 1 Timothy 1:5

1. The goal of the commandment is love

a) It is the singular goal

b) The focus is on love

c) The goal is love

d) The end of the commandment is all about love


2. The love is meant for

a) God

b) People

c) Church

 

(II) THE ESSENCE OF LOVE

“Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,” 1 Timothy 1:5

1. A pure heart

a) Heart that is cleansed

b) There is purity of heart


2. A good conscience

a) A conscience that is not sullied

b) It is of good merit and worth


3. A sincere faith

a) To be the opposite of being hypocritical

b) Genuine faith that has no hidden agenda

 

(III) THE OUTFLOWING OF LOVE

1. Love is something that springs out of these things


2. All of which are of equal importance

 

(IV) MUCH TO GIVE THANKS FOR

1. Giving thanks to the Lord for His commandments


2. Give thanks that our goal for the word has always been love


3. Give thanks for great love that we can share and should continue to share in Bethany
