“A TRUE SON IN THE FAITH”

 

(I) TIMOTHY- A DISCIPLE

1. Described as “a certain disciple” (Acts 16:1)

a) Not well known

b) One of a number of disciples


2. Background (Acts 16:1)

a) A Jewish mother who was a believer

b) Greek father (probably not a believer)


3. Good features (Acts 16:2)

a) He was well-spoken of by the brethren at Lystra and Iconium

i) People bore witness concerning him

ii) Many of the brethren commended him

b) He had good potential


4. Special Discipleship process

a) Paul wanted to have him on his team (Acts 16:3)

b) He had Timothy circumcised (Acts 16:3)

i) Timothy was prepared

ii) He obeyed

 

(II) TIMOTHY- A TRUE SON

1. Timothy journeyed with Paul


2. He served with him in the 2nd Missionary journey


3. Paul acknowledged him as a true son

a) A true son (1 Timothy 1:2)

i) Legitimate

ii) Genuine

b) In the faith

i) Faith in the Lord Jesus

ii) Timothy is acknowledged as a true son by Paul

 

(III) TIMOTHY- A BELOVED SON

1. Timothy had proved himself well


2. He had now become a beloved son to Paul (2 Timothy 1:2)

a) Through time

b) Through service

c) Through experience
