2. Disappointment in self

3. Disappointment in God

(II) HOPE IN GOD DOES NOT DISAPPOINT

1. Reasons for this strong conviction

b) Because this love has been poured into our heart ( Romans 5:5 )

c) Because of the Holy Spirit given to us ( Romans 5:5 )

d) Because of Christ’s death for us ( Romans 5:6 )

2. Application of this strong counsel

a) Concerning the death of Christ

i) Christ died for the ungodly

ii) Hard to die for anyone

iii) Perhaps we would die “for a good man” ( Romans 6:7 )

iv) While we were yet sinners Christ died for us ( Romans 6:8 )

b) Significance of Christ’s death

i) We have been justified by His blood ( Romans 6:9a )

ii) We shall be saved from wrath through Christ ( Romans 6:9b )

iii) We have been reconciled to God ( Romans 6:10 )

iv) We shall be fully saved by His life ( Romans 6:10 )

(III) A CHALLENGE TO KNOW OUR FAITH BETTER

1. Understanding the doctrine of grace far more deeply (Romans 5:15)

2. Understanding the doctrine of Christ (Romans 5:11-21)

3. Understanding the doctrine of how Christ overcomes the problem of sin (Romans 5)
