THE PROMISE OF ANOTHER HELPER

The Lord Jesus knew His Disciples only too well! He knew that they would need all the help they could get in order to thrive. Hence, He said that He would pray and ask God to give them the greatest gift ever, this side of heaven.

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.     John 14:15-18

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.     Acts 1:8

  1. The Lord’s Prayer request

a) To ask God the Father to give another Helper

b) This is a reference to the Holy Spirit of Truth 

  1. The Person and Ministry of the Holy Spirit

a) He will be a Permanent Helper

b) He will be the Divine Paraclete

c) He will dwell within the hearts of the Disciples

d) He will empower the Disciples so that they will be able bear witness effectively

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

  1. To love the Lord even more for thinking of us
  1. To comprehend the role of the Spirit of truth in our life
  1. To determine to bear witness of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
