I LOVE THE LORD

A DECLARATION OF LOVE FOR GOD

This Psalm was written with great love for the Lord. The Psalmist remembered a special time when the Lord delivered his soul from death!

1 I love the LORD, because He has heard

My voice and my supplications.

2 Because He has inclined His ear to me,

Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

3 The pains of death surrounded me,

And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;

I found trouble and sorrow.

4 Then I called upon the name of the LORD:

“O LORD, I implore You, deliver my soul!”

5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;

Yes, our God is merciful.

6 The LORD preserves the simple;

I was brought low, and He saved me.

7 Return to your rest, O my soul,

For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.     Psalm 116:1-7

  1. A harrowing experience recalled

a) He wrote about the pains of death

b) The pangs of Sheol

c) Trouble and sorrow

d) The only thing he could do was to call on the Lord!

  1. Remembering the Lord’s help

a) He had heard the prayers offered

b) He saved and preserved

c) He had dealt bountifully

THE APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

  1. To declare Love for God
  1. To decide to keep close to the Lord
  1. To rest in His grace and mercy
