Text: Psalm 105

THE STORY OF JOSEPH

Of all the sons of Jacob, the most illustrious one was called Joseph. The story of Joseph’s life was brilliantly sketched in a few lines.

16 Moreover He called for a famine in the land;
He destroyed all the provision of bread.

17 He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who was sold as a slave.

18 They hurt his feet with fetters,
He was laid in irons.

19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of the LORD tested him.     Psalm 105:16-19

  1. God was the Master Planner

a) It was He who called for a famine in Egypt

b) The famine caused the “destruction” of bread in the land

  1. God sent Joseph into the land of Egypt

a) He entered into the land as a mere slave

b) Joseph was imprisoned

i)  He was framed

ii) He suffered greatly because he was fettered

  1. God was testing Joseph all this while

a) Could he take hardship?

b) Would he lose his faith?

c) Would being imprisoned change him adversely?

GOD’S PLAN WORKED OUT WELL

  1. For Joseph personally
  1. For his family who came to live in Egypt
  1. For Egypt because the country never had a better governor

Our challenge is to learn how we can trace the hand of God in our life! May the Lord raise up outstanding servants like Joseph in every generation!
