Text: Ephesians
11 June 2023

THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

This is a great gift to be treasured! The following things need to be remembered:

  1. This Gift was prophesied (Isaiah 44; Joel 2)
  1. This Gift was prayed for by the Lord Jesus  (John 14)
  1. He was outpoured upon the Disciples of the Lord Jesus (Acts 2)

THE GRIEVING OF THE SPIRIT

If the Holy Spirit has been graciously given, why does He not fill the lives of many believers? Part of the problem may be caused by the sin of grieving the Spirit.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.     Ephesians 4:30-32

  1. The Holy Spirit has been given to all believers

a) He is our Seal for the day of redemption

b) We need not fear losing our salvation

  1. But we may grieve the Spirit of God badly

a) Thus, we are not filled with Him

b) We need to be aware of what grieves Him

c) These may seem to be “small” sins

d) Nevertheless, we cannot treat them lightly
