I AM WITH THE FATHER WHO SENT ME

A UNIQUE RELATIONSHIP
The Lord Jesus caused the religious leaders of His day great consternation. They had never come across anyone who had such a close relationship with God. They were puzzled and mystified.
AN EXPLANATION GIVEN
The Lord Jesus sought to explain this unique relationship with God the Father.
13 The Pharisees therefore said to Him, “You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true.”
14 Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
16 And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.
17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
18 I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.”
19 Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?”
Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.” John 8:13-19
1. Two witnesses cited
a) The Lord Jesus bore true witness of Himself by His life and deeds
b) God the Father also bore constant witness of the Lord Jesus
2. The problem of unbelief
a) The basic problem of the religious leaders was that of unbelief
b) They had rejected the Lord Jesus despite all that He said and did
c) They had, in effect, rejected God the Father too!
A DEEP CONSCIOUSNESS OF GOD THE FATHER
The Lord Jesus sought to explain His consciousness of God the Father. Two aspects may be highlighted:
1. That God was indeed His Father
2. That the Father had sent Him
a) To proclaim the Gospel with power
b) To bring Israel into the Kingdom of God through faith
But if the religious leaders continued with their unbelief, they would never know God as their Father in heaven.
