PREACHING THE KINGDOM OF GOD

This was a vital ministry the Lord Jesus was engaged in. He explained why He was so committed.

42 Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them;

43 but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”

44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.     Luke 4:42-44

  1. He could not just stay in one place
  1. There were many more people who had not heard about the Kingdom of God

THE PLAN OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

The Lord Jesus had another focus besides preaching the Gospel of the kingdom. He called people to become Disciples.

The Plan of the Lord Jesus was not clear to the Multitudes nor to His disciples. The Plan of the Lord may be outlined briefly this way.

  1. Reaching out to people

a) Presenting the Gospel

b) Helping people to find faith in God

c) Granting salvation and entrance into God’s kingdom

  1. Making Disciples

a) This was the logical next step

b) Becoming a Disciple should be the happy response of all

c) The example of the first Disciples of the Lord Jesus

d) They left whatever they were doing immediately and followed the Lord Jesus (Matthew 4:20; Mark 1:18)

  1. The future leaders of the Church

What did the Lord Jesus have in mind when He called people to follow Him?

a) The believers began to be grounded in their faith

b) The first set of Disciples were made Apostles

c) They would lead the Church years down the road

SERVANTS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD

There are many challenges to consider. The Lord Jesus wanted His Disciples to be:

  1. Salt of the earth     Matthew 5:13
  1. Light of the world     Mathew 5:14a
  1. A city on a hill     Matthew 5:14b
  1. Labourers in the harvest field     Luke 11:2

Let us ponder deeply the challenge to become useful servants of the Lord in His kingdom. There are so many who have yet to hear the Gospel of the Kingdom!
