GOD’S EYE ON THOSE WHO FEAR HIM
Text: Psalm 33

GOD’S EYE ON MANKIND
That God’s eye is on the world is stated in many places:
- The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men Psalm 14:2
- His eye beholds, His eyelids test the sons of men Psalm 11:4
- The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous Psalm 34:15
GOD’S EYE ESPECIALLY ON THOSE WHO FEAR HIM
The following text teaches us that God watches over the righteous.
Behold, the eyes of the LORD
Is on those who fear Him;
On those who hope in His mercy. Psalm 33:18
- Behold
a) When this word is used, it always describes something special
b) In this instance, the Psalmist expresses delight:
i) That God would especially watch over His people
ii) That God would especially give special attention
- The eyes of the LORD
a) This word “eyes” is to be understood metaphorically
b) It reflects the following:
i) Observation
ii) Knowledge
iii) Discernment
iv) Special care and concern (loving watchfulness)
v) This is because of a special relationship between God and the devotee
- On those who fear Him
a) The fear of the Lord must be present in the heart
b) It must be genuine
c) It must be evidenced
- On those who hope in His mercy
a) The word “hope” expresses the faith of the believer
b) He does not take God nor His blessings for granted
c) The devotee trusts in the Person of God
i) That He is full of grace
ii) That He is full of mercy
OUR CHALLENGE
Let us seek to cultivate our fear of God meaningfully. Let us seek to walk in His ways, believing that He will watch over us with great tender-mercies!
