THE MANY STRUGGLES OF LIFE

The Psalmist David experienced many struggles in life. Despite being a king, there were many things that caused him to feel distressed and fearful.

  1. There was grief     Psalm 31:9
  1. He sighed a lot     Psalm 31:10
  1. He felt weakness     Psalm 31:10
  1. He was reproached     Psalm 31:11
  1. He was slandered     Psalm 31:13
  1. He could not shake his fears     Psalm 31:13

What could he do to overcome all these thoughts and feelings that threaten to overwhelm?

THINGS HE COULD DO

There were things that David could do. He sought the Lord’s mercy.

  1. He admitted his sins     Psalm 31:10
  1. He pleaded for mercy     Psalm 31:9

  1. He appealed to the Lord as his God     Psalm 31:14

FAITH IN THE LORD

One of the things that David held on to was his faith and hope in the Lord.

Oh, how great is Your goodness,

Which You have laid up for those who fear You,

Which You have prepared for those who trust in You,

In the presence of the sons of men.     Psalm 31:19

  1. Those who fear You

a) They are also those who have placed their trust in the Lord

  1. Faith in the Lord’s favourable response

a) Because of His great goodness

b) He has laid up His good blessings for those who trust Him

c) He would display His favour in the presence of the sons of men

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us cultivate a fear of the Lord. It involves trusting Him though we may be surrounded by many difficulties! Let us believe with all our heart in the goodness and mercy of the LORD our God!
