WONDROUS TEACHING ON THE SUBJECT OF CALLING
One of the most significant writers in the New Testament on the subject of God’s calling was the Apostle Paul. We owe much of our understanding of this topic to the Epistles he had written.
Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ,
Called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God
Through Him we have received grace and apostleship
For obedience to the faith among all nations for His name
Among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ. Romans 1:1, 5-6
- A shared calling
a) Paul was first called to salvation (Acts 9)
b) The Romans also were given the call of salvation
- The call to salvation
a) Through the gospel of God
b) Through grace
c) Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
- The Call to be an Apostle
a) This was, of course, special
b) Paul was given that special grace to be called to become an Apostle
- Paul’s perspective of being called to serve God as an Apostle
a) There was gratitude in his heart
b) He saw himself as no more than “a bondslave”
i) He pledged himself to serve the Lord humbly
ii) He served the Lord with great distinction
- Separated to the gospel of God
a) It was all by the grace of God
i) To be called to salvation
ii) To be called to service
b) This act of God
i) It is according to God’s will and wisdom
ii) This is a mystery that cannot be fully comprehended
OUR CHALLENGE
We have been gloriously saved too. We have a calling to serve God faithfully. Let us seek to emulate the example of the Apostle Paul. Let us seek to serve Him with all our heart!
