I WILL POUR MY SPIRIT ON YOUR DESCENDANTS
Text: Isaiah 44

A GLORIOUS PROMISE
We have a wonderful and glorious promise from the Lord in the following text.
For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
And floods on the dry ground;
I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants,
And My blessing on your offspring.
They will spring up among the grass like willows
By the water courses. Isaiah 44:3-4
- Significant use of Imagery
a) Water to the thirsty
b) Floods on dry ground
- Water to the thirsty
a) Water is often taken for granted
b) Only the thirsty fully appreciates the value of water
- Floods on the dry ground
a) The dry ground can be very parched
b) It would take floods to address dry grounds
THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Two prophets foretold the giving of the Holy Spirit. These references to the Holy Spirit may be found in the following chapters:
- Joel 2
- Isaiah 44
The imagery above highlights the significance of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The spiritually thirsty will have their thirst quenched. The dry ground will no longer be barren after a flood of water is poured on it.
THE OUTPOURING OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD
This text in Isaiah highlights the following things:
- The giving of the Holy Spirit
a) Anointing for ministry
b) Authority for ministry
- The recipients
a) The present generation that walks with the Lord
b) The next generation(s) that will walk closely with Him
RESULTS OF THE OUTPOURING OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD
The following results may be highlighted:-
- A time of refreshing
- A time of renewal
- A time of growth
- Fruit will be a natural and happy consequence
Let us seek the filling of the Holy Spirit in our life and ministry!
