Text: Colossians 2:1-3

THE MYSTERY OF GOD

To some God is a mystery. He is almost unknowable. He remains aloof and distant impossible to reach.

MYSTERY AS “REVEALED KNOWLEDGE”

The word “mystery” is to be understood differently when we look at the Scriptures. Let us take time to ponder the following text.

That their hearts may be encouraged,
Being knit together in love,
And attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding,
To the knowledge of the mystery of God,
Both of the Father and of Christ,

In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
                                                                                        Colossians 2:2-3

1. The mystery of God

a) It is described as “knowledge”

b) It is also described as “understanding”

i) This understanding can be very rich

ii) It can give full assurance to the heart and mind

2. Revealed knowledge

a) Concerning God the Father

b) Concerning Jesus Christ

KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

The apostle Paul sought to highlight the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in his epistle to the Colossians.

1. In Christ are hidden treasures

a) There is much more about Christ than most realize

b) There are treasures that await discovery

2. Wisdom and knowledge

a) These are to be found in the Person of Christ Himself

b) These are to be gleaned from His teachings

i) The Gospels contain much of what Jesus taught

ii) The Epistles essentially expound the teachings of Jesus
