DECLARE HIS DEEDS

Text: Psalm 9
12 January 2014

THE DEEDS OF GOD

There is deep theological and spiritual significance to be found in the works of God. Hence the Psalmist David determined to declare the deeds of God.

Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion!
Declare His deeds among the people.       Psalm 9:11

DEEP THEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE

What are some things we must take note of as we ponder the works of God? Let us look at how King David derived the following thoughts:-

1. God is sovereign

a) He sits on His throne in heaven
b) He has supreme power over the earth
c) He sits as the Supreme Judge          Psalm 9:7-8

2. God will judge the wicked

a) The wicked may think that they can get away with their evil deeds
b) They think that just because they do not believe in God, thus He does not exist
c) One day they would be judged for their wicked deeds             Psalm 9:5, 16-17

3. God will maintain the cause of the righteous

a) He will be a refuge for the oppressed
b) He will not forget the cry of the humble

APPROPRIATE RESPONSES

Let us consider some of the appropriate responses we should make as we ponder the deeds of God.

1. Praise
Let us always have a song of praise on our lips for the Lord (Psalm 9:1a, 11a)

2. Share
Let us speak of our faith in the Lord. Let us share what we know of God gently (Psalm 9:1b, 11b)

3. Trust
Let us deepen our trust in the Lord  (Psalm 9:10)

4. Pray
Let us plead God’s mercy when we go through rough patches in life.

Let us learn deep lessons from this series of Pulpit Messages in the months of January-February 2014.
