Day 46

"The LORD of hosts has sent Me to you"

Text: Zechariah 4:9

THE WORK OF ZERUBBABEL

The wonderful hand of God must be acknowledged. But at the same time, the human hand of Zerubbabel was also noted.

“Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
‘The hands of Zerubbabel
Have laid the foundation of this temple;
His hands shall also finish it.
Then you will know
That the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you.'”
Zechariah 4:8-9

1. “Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying”

a) The teaching angel may explain things to Zechariah.
b) But the source of the word (the message) is ultimately the LORD Himself.

2. “The hands of Zerubbabel”

a) They laid the foundations of the temple.
b) They will also finish the construction of the Temple.
c) This was a word of great assurance to Zerubbabel.

3. “Then you will know”

a) The remnant must have a stronger sense of knowledge of God’s involvement.
b) They must seek to grow deeper in knowledge and understanding.

4. “That the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you”

a) The personal pronoun was used in both verses (Zechariah 4:8-9).
b) If the first reference is to Zechariah, it follows that the second reference is also to the prophet.
c) The message was given by the teaching angel to the question of Zechariah (Zechariah 4:4).
d) The context is not a reference to the Angel of the LORD.
e) The completion of the temple project would confirm that Zechariah had been sent.
