"Take away the filthy garments from him"

Text: Zechariah 3:4

THE WONDERFUL SUPPORT OF THE ANGEL OF THE LORD

Joshua was not disappointed as he waited upon the Angel of the LORD.

“Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him,
saying, ‘Take away the filthy garments from him.’
And to him He said, ‘See, I have removed your iniquity from you,
and I will clothe you with rich robes.'”
Zechariah 3:4

1. The Role of the Angel of the LORD

a) His role was as a Mediator.

b) His role was to support Joshua and to stand by him before the LORD God.

c) What He actually said and did was not recorded.

2. “Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him”

a) The LORD answered.

b) All who stood before Him:

i) The Angel of the LORD

ii) Satan the Adversary

iii) The mighty angels of God

iv) Joshua the high priest

3. The command of the LORD

a) “The filthy garments”

They are to be removed.

b) Joshua could not minister wearing those garments.

4. A personal word to Joshua

a) The iniquity of Joshua was taken away.

b) His iniquity was symbolized by his filthy garments.

c) “Rich robes”

i) These would be the robes of the high priest.

ii) They were indeed rich robes.

iii) These represent the rich favour of the LORD.

d) Joshua would be re-instated as the high priest of Israel.
