"Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion"

Text: Zechariah 2:10

THE PRESENCE OF JOY

Joy is often associated with the blessings of the LORD. Each and every blessing of God should bring gladness of heart and joy to the soul!

THE LOSS OF JOY

Joy is often lost in times of war and hardship. Israel had lost much because of their being exiled far from home. Survival in a harsh and hostile environment robbed many of their joy.

THE RETURN OF JOY

This was what the Lord promised to those who lived in captivity.

“‘Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion!
For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,’
says the LORD.”
Zechariah 2:10

1. “Sing and rejoice”

a) There was every reason to do that.
i) The enemies are defeated.
ii) Israel was returning to their homeland.
b) “O daughter of Zion”
i) This was a term of affection.
ii) The LORD still loved Zion (another term of affection for “Jerusalem”).

2. “For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst”

a) This word should bring even greater joy.
b) The LORD was coming to them.
c) He would dwell among His people.
i) With the presence of God would come protection.
ii) With the LORD dwelling among His people there would come provision.

3. “Says the LORD”

This was God’s special way of confirming that what He has said would certainly come to pass.
