Day 19

"The LORD will again comfort Zion"

Text: Zechariah 1:17

A MESSAGE OF COMFORT

The message that Zechariah was instructed to proclaim was one that was meant to bring much comfort to the heart.

“Again proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts:
“My cities shall again spread out through prosperity;
The LORD will again comfort Zion,
And will again choose Jerusalem.”‘”
Zechariah 1:17

1. “Again proclaim, saying”

a) This was to be the concluding word.
b) This would complete the message with reference to the vision of the horsemen.

2. “Thus says the LORD of hosts”

a) It was important to include this statement.
b) For Zechariah and the remnant:
i) This message came from the LORD God Himself.
ii) Thus, this word of comfort was strong and valid.
iii) The LORD was the Head of a host of mighty angels and He was all-powerful.

3. “My cities shall again spread out through prosperity”

a) This was an uplifting word about the future.
b) There was no need to fear that the future would be bleak because of poverty.
c) God can and will bring about prosperity so that the cities of Judah can be built.

4. Two actions of the LORD were to be emphatically proclaimed by Zechariah

a) “Comfort for Zion”
The LORD would come alongside and He will bring comfort to Zion.
b) “Choose Jerusalem”

The LORD had chosen Jerusalem once before in the days of King Solomon.
(2 Chronicles 7). He will once again choose Jerusalem as the special object of His attention and blessing.
