"To speak evil of no one..."

Text: Titus 3:2

OUR CHRISTIAN CONDUCT

How should we conduct ourselves as Christians living in a secular world? Let us give heed to the admonition of the apostle Paul.

“To speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle,
showing all humility to all men.”
Titus 3:2

1. “To speak evil of no one”

a) How easy it is to fall into the temptation of criticism and condemnation.
b) The idea of speaking evil here is analogous to “blasphemy”.
c) This was a very serious word of admonition.
d) It is altogether too easy to condemn rulers and authorities.
e) The admonition given here is to refrain from doing this.

2. “To be peaceable”

a) It describes a person who is not warlike.
b) He seeks peace and promotes it.

3. “Gentle”

a) This has the idea of being considerate.
b) It expresses itself in gracious behaviour.
c) Gentleness is to be cultivated and practised.

4. “Showing all humility to all men”

a) “Showing all humility”
i) Humility was meant to be displayed.
ii) It was not meant to be hidden.
iii) “All humility” suggests deep and genuine humility.
iv) It was meant to be displayed in our conduct.
b) “To all men”
i) To the rulers and authorities.
ii) To the poor and needy.
iii) To everyone, regardless of their race or standing in society.
