Romans
"Like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus."
Text: Romans 15:5b
GOD’S WORK
The Scriptures describe the work of God in very definite ways. We may list the following things:-
1. God’s work seen in Creation
a) This is described in Genesis 1-2.
b) God’s handiwork received a rave review in Psalm 19.
2. God’s work seen in the history of Israel
a) The Pentateuch (Five books of Moses, Genesis – Deuteronomy) describe how God formed the nation of Israel.
b) The historical books of the Old Testament solemnly record the rise and fall of the nation of Israel (Cf. Joshua – 2 Chronicles).
3. God’s new work in the redemption of man
a) This work centered in Christ Jesus (Romans 15:5b).
b) Man, the redeemed creature, is the new workmanship of God (Cf. Ephesians 2:10).
c) He patterns the born-again, new believer after the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ (Cf. Ephesians 4:23-24).
THE MANNER IN WHICH GOD WORKS
Two features are highlighted:
1. God works with utmost patience.
2. God will often have to correct the believer but He will also bring comfort to his heart.
a) Chastening is inevitable (Cf. Hebrews 12:5-13).
b) Comfort is also abundantly given (Cf.2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
MAN’S RELATIONSHIP TO MAN
One of God’s concerns is that man must learn how to work with his fellow-men! Believers ought to be consciously praying that they might be “like-minded toward one another”.
