"Live peaceably with all men."

Text: Romans 12:18

CHOOSING OUR RESPONSES

In this section of Paul’s letter to the Romans, he was essentially teaching his readers the subject of how to choose their responses. Three broad choices are always present.

1. There is the world’s way of responding

If the believer is influenced by the world, then he would not stand out as a child of God!

2. There is the personal/individual way of responding

If the believer insists on choosing to follow his own ideas, he might find that his responses may be far from appropriate or correct!

3. There is also the Biblical/Christian way of responding

As far as Paul was concerned, the believer must give heed to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ!

CHOOSING THE PATH OF PEACE

Let us ponder the following word of admonition of the apostle Paul.

“If it is possible, as much as depends on you,
live peaceably with all men.
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather
give place to wrath; for it is written,
‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay’ says the Lord.”
Romans 12:18-19

1. The way of the world

a) Many would choose the path of revenge.
b) Many allow their hearts to be filled with wrath.

2. The way of the Lord

a) We must choose to live in peace.
b) We are never to avenge ourselves.
c) We are to believe in the Justice of the Lord.
d) We are to trust that God Himself would mete out Divine Justice against all wrongdoers.
e) Believers are urged to trust in the Word of the Lord.
