"I was found by those who did not seek Me..."

Text: Romans 10:20

THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER

What is the real truth of the matter? Let us ponder the following text.

“First Moses says:
‘I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation,
I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.’

But Isaiah is very bold and says:
‘I was found by those who did not seek Me:
I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.’

But to Israel he says:
‘All day long I have stretched out My hands
To a disobedient and contrary people.'”
Romans 10:19-21

1. On very strong grounds

Paul had to refute false but bold excuses. He did this by citing two prominent Old Testament servants of God!

a) Moses was first cited as authority.
b) Isaiah was also cited as authority.

2. Concerning Israel

a) “All day long I have stretched out My hands”.
i) God had been reaching out to Israel all along.
ii) He had sent countless prophets to call the nation back to Himself.
b) Israel demonstrated a very nasty vein of unrighteousness.
i) Israel was described simply as “a disobedient…people”.
ii) The people would always act “contrary” to God’s word preached to them.

3. Concerning Gentiles

a) They were not people who had Israel’s privileges; they were called “a foolish nation”.
b) However they found faith in God (rather than Israel)!
