"How then shall they call on Him...?"

Text: Romans 10:14

NOT ENOUGH TO GET DOCTRINE STRAIGHT!

Doctrine is important. It must be understood carefully and accurately. Wrong doctrines can create massive problems. But having right doctrine is not sufficient!

A CONCERN FOR THE LOST

Paul was deeply concerned for those who did not have even the most basic of knowledge of God. Those who truly have come to genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ must also be deeply concerned for many who do not know Him as Saviour.

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?
And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?
And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall
they preach unless they are sent?
Romans 10:14-15a

1. A Chain of closely-related matters

a) Calling on the Lord is related to believing in Him.
b) Believing in Him is related to knowledge of Him (hearing the Gospel).
c) Hearing the Word of salvation is related to the work of a preacher.
d) Preaching is related to those who send them.

2. The Point of raising this thought

a) To raise awareness that there are many who have not heard the Gospel.
b) To raise concern for the plight of the lost.
c) To challenge all to proclaim (preach) the Gospel.
d) To create support so that more can be sent out to preach the Gospel.

EVERYONE SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT EVANGELISM

It is all very well to discuss wonderful Biblical doctrines! Knowledge of the Scriptures and genuine salvation must move people to reach out with the Gospel message. Both Jews and Greeks need to hear about the salvation that is in Christ Jesus. But here must be “preachers” who will preach convincingly and effectively so that people can come to salvation in Christ Jesus! There is a part for every true believer! He can either become a preacher of the Gospel, or he can become a supporter of the one who preaches the Gospel!
