Day 217

"The same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him..."

Text: Romans 10:12

DOES ETHNICITY REALLY MATTER?

This was an issue that Paul had addressed earlier. This time round he seeks to state things very simply.

“For the Scripture says,
‘Whoever believes on Him…’

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek,
for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him,
for ‘whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.'”
Romans 10:11-13

1. From the human standpoint

Some would argue that ethnicity matters! The Jews would find it hard to believe that their ethnicity did not matter.

2. From God’s standpoint

Paul presented God’s perspective in the following manner:-

a) Citing the Scriptures
i) They are cited for authority.
ii) They are also cited because they represent God’s perspective.
b) “Whoever”
i) The first “whoever” text was taken from Isaiah 28:16
ii) The second “whoever” text was taken from Joel 2:32
iii) What does “whoever” mean but Greek and Jew!
c) The same Lord
i) The focus should not be on the human being (Jew or Greek).
ii) The focus should be on the LORD God Himself who is the Author of the Scriptures.
iii) The focus should be on the LORD who is “rich” in grace and mercy and He is able to save all who call upon Him in genuine faith- whether Jew or Greek!
