"He opened the sixth seal"

Text: Revelation 6:12

THE OPENING OF THE SIXTH SEAL

The Lamb of God opened the penultimate seal. The opening of this seal was accompanied by ominous signs from both heaven and earth.

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal,
and behold, there was a great earthquake;
and the sun became black as sackcloth
of hair, and the moon became like blood.
And the stars of heaven fell to the earth,
as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.
Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up,
and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.”
Revelation 6:12-14

1. An ominous sign on earth.

a) A great earthquake occurred.

i) An earthquake may seem to be a “normal or occasional event”.

ii) In this instance, it is a sign from God and related to the sixth seal.

b) Mountains and islands.

i) These would move away from their regular positions.

ii) Their movement could be caused by the great earthquake.

2. Ominous signs from heaven,

a) The sun

i) It was darkened.

ii) It was compared to the blackness of a sackcloth of hair.

b) The moon

i) It became like blood (in colour).

ii) What happens to the sun would directly affect the moon.

c) The stars of heaven

i) They were compared to the figs.

ii) They will drop as figs fall when shaken by a mighty wind.

d) The sky

i) It is compared to a scroll.

ii) It will be rolled up.

These would be awesome signs that must not be ignored!
